There are young boys who are waiting for someone to defend and empower their potential. Become a mentor as part of the "30 Guys in 30 Days" campaign during the month of July and end that wait. Together, we can change the world, one child at a time.

CALLING ALL GUYS!

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Louisiana has launched the “30 Guys in 30 Days” recruitment campaign that will run during the month of July to raise awareness about the agency’s urgent need for male mentors and to engage and recruit more male volunteers to become Big mentors in the Southwest Louisiana area for boys currently waiting to be matched with a mentor.

Nationally, 66% of youth on the waiting list for Big Brothers Big Sisters organizations are boys, but only 36% of volunteer mentors are men. “We have so many amazing young boys in our program who have such great potential. All they need is someone to help bring it out in them,” says Executive Director, Erin Davison. “Our one-to-one matches truly have a positive impact on our Littles. They’re 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs, 27% less likely to begin using alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, and are more confident in every day life. That’s a big deal!”

There are two main programs through BBBS-SWLA. In the Community-Based mentoring program, Bigs commit to spending time with their Little a minimum of twice a month and do activities together out in the community, like going to the park, playing sports, learning new skills, and many others. The School-Based mentoring programs consist of the Lunch Buddy and Reading Readiness mentoring programs which allow Bigs to meet their Littles a minimum of twice a month in the school setting. The Big meets with their Little either during their lunch hour or enrichment period for the entire school year. The main focus of these programs is spending time together to talk and build meaningful relationships, as well as creating and developing a one-to-one mentoring relationship between the Big and Little.

The goal of this campaign is to recruit 30 male mentors by July 31st. Visit www.bbbsswla.org or call 337.478.5437 to get involved and become a Big mentor today. Groups or organizations who are interested in helping or getting involved with the “30 Guys in 30 Days” campaign may contact Alex Stinchcomb, Marketing & Development Manager at [email protected] 337-478-5437, ext. 114.
