Bags and Brew Raises More Than $40,000 for BBBS SWLA!

LAKE CHARLES, La. (April 1, 2025) – Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Louisiana raised more than $40,000 during its annual Bags and Brew cornhole tournament, held Saturday, March 29, at Crying Eagle Brewery.

The event drew 100 teams of amateur and competitive players for a round-robin, single-elimination tournament. Participants received four drink tickets, two appetizer vouchers, and three guaranteed rounds of play. First- and second-place winners earned cash prizes.

The family-friendly event blended spirited competition with a mission-driven purpose—mentorship.

“This event is always a highlight of the year for us,” said Jillian Cormier, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Louisiana. “It combines the competitive energy of our community with the heart of our work—building strong, meaningful relationships that change lives. Raising more than $40,000 in one afternoon shows just how much our community values mentorship.”

Players arrived decked out in themed team attire and creative team names, bringing extra energy and excitement to the tournament atmosphere.

In addition to the funds raised, seven people submitted volunteer inquiries in the days following the event—a strong sign of continued community support.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Louisiana thanks Crying Eagle Brewery, event sponsors, players, and volunteers for making Bags and Brew 2025 a success. Proceeds will directly support one-to-one mentoring relationships across the region.
